Naming Ceremonies

Joyful, celebratory rites of passage
for non-religious families

What is a naming ceremony?

Think of naming ceremonies a little like a non-religious Christening - they are a way of welcoming your new little one into your community and honouring that huge change of becoming parents. Whether this is your first child or seventh, parenting is an enormous privilege that is worth celebrating.

During a naming ceremony, you can make promises to your little one, share the story of their name (one of my favourite bits!) and appoint guideparents. There can be symbolic elements like a tree planting, combined with songs and readings to make your baby's naming day a real moment of celebration.

Naming ceremonies aren't just confined to new babies. You might be celebrating the blending of a family through marriage, an adoption, or a renaming after transition. Whatever your reason for a naming ceremony, I'm here to craft the perfect ceremony for you.

What do I offer as your celebrant?

Since becoming a mum, I've never felt more fierce, more powerful, or as soft. I am utterly obsessed with my little boy and I know first-hand all the emotions of parenthood and the enormous shift in your world as you navigate life with a new family member.

As my son grows, I'm always collecting poems and quotes that I want to share with him; snippets of the enormity of the love I feel for him. I'll share all those with you to help in your quest for the perfect reading or as inspiration for the promises and hopes you want to share with your child.

In me, you have a fellow parent who loves nothing more than learning the stories of how you came by that perfect name. I will craft a ceremony that's bursting with love, hope and joy, and deliver it with that same spirit.

My fee for naming ceremonies is £350 (+travel). This includes:

  • a video call or in-person meet up where we get to know each other and you tell me all about your little love

  • a follow-up questionnaire to make sure I have all the details I need to get writing

  • a draft copy of the script sent through to you two weeks before your ceremony

  • liaising with your venue and any other suppliers on the day

  • the delivery of your ceremony with warmth and love

  • a keepsake copy of the ceremony script, sent within 2 weeks of your ceremony

Ready to plan? Drop me an email and tell me all about their gorgeous name here.
